    Justice Sanotsh Kumar Foujdar, a former judge of the Calcutta and Allahabad High Courts, was appointed today as an independent observer of the July 30 CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) elections.

    The chief metropolitan magistrate of the city civil court, Mr P.K. Sarker, in his ruling appointed the former judge for conducting the elections. He will have to submit his report to the court within three days of the elections.

    The court also directed the Director-General of the West Bengal Police to oversee that law and order was maintained where the election would be held on July 30 and if the observer sought help of the police, it would provide all necessary assistance.

    Both the presidential candidates, Jagmohan Dalmiya and Prasun Mukherjee, had agreed to accept the former judge as the observer. Initially, both the groups suggested two different names for representing their respective groups as observer, which the CPM rejected.
