Artiste multidisciplinaire, Kaveh Nabatian réalise avec Sin La Habana un premier long métrage. Puisant dans ses racines culturelles et ses multiples influences, il a construit un film dont la forme est aussi importante que les mots pour faire passer une idée centrale : l’humanisme est plus fort que tout.
Insatiable explorateur des arts, Kaveh Nabatian croit en l’humanisme. Il croit que les individus, peu importe leurs origines, leur rang social et leurs ambitions, sont unis par certaines valeurs fondamentales.
C’est ce qu’il véhicule à travers Sin La Habana, chronique d’un triangle amoureux tordu, mais dont les membres ont tous placé le désir d’une vie meilleure au cœur de leur parcours.
Ces trois personnes, ce sont Léonardo, Sara et Nasim. Les deux premiers, en couple dans la vie, sont Cubains et désirent quitter l’île de Fidel. Léonardo est danseur de ballet, Sara est avocate. Avec l’accord de Sara, Léonardo séduit Nasim, une touriste irano-canadienne qu’il va rejoindre à Montréal. Sara va suivre par un autre mariage arrangé.
Or, les choses évoluent d’une façon inattendue dans la relation entre ces trois individus qui portent tous les stigmates d’une vie difficile.

Sin La Habana is my first feature film, a labour of love that began with a trip to Cuba in 2005.
Leonardo, a classical dancer, and Sara, a lawyer, are young, beautiful and in love. They’re also ambitious, but their dreams are thwarted by Cuba’s closed borders. Their ticket to a brighter future lies with Nasim, a tourist with a taste for the exotic. An Iranian-born Canadian, she’s struggling with her own demons. Power, money, creativity and destiny intertwine in a passionate love triangle with a hint of magic, where cultures clash in a torrid dance between Quebec’s winter and Havana’s sultry Malecón.
Sin La Habana holds a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is a New York Times Critic’s Pick. It is available in the US on major streaming platforms (Apple TV, Amazon, Youtube, etc.), distributed by Breaking Glass Pictures. Available in Canada on iTunes.
